One of the newest Minnesota Timberwolves has been making the rounds throughout the state helping young fans of the team learn basketball skills. First round pick Tyus Jones has been on the Minnesota Timberwolves Caravan that stops for its final basketball clinic in Rochester today.
Previously, the caravan made stops in Alexandria and Mankato. The hour and a half free clinics headlined by Jones for kids ages 5-18 have just been one part of the exciting activities.
The caravan has been going strong for 25 years and also sends the Timberwolves mascot Crunch out in the community to make appearances. In addition to Jones, assistant coaches Sam Mitchell and Ryan Saunders went along to help out.
Jones joined first overall pick Karl-Anthony Towns in Minnesota after being selected 24th this summer. Minnesota hopes the duo joins an already promising young core to lead the franchise into a new era of winning.
After his freshman season at Duke, Jones knows all about succeeding at the highest level. He was named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four after helping the Blue Devils win the NCAA Championship.
In the title game triumph over Wisconsin, Jones had 23 points and five rebounds. During the regular season, he averaged 11.8 points, 5.6 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game.
