As Under Armour continues their path towards being a groundbreaking brand in the sports apparel realm, they are the first company to ink a top NFL Draft prospect. On Thursday, they announced a multi-year deal with former UCLA linebacker Myles Jack.
Jack joins other pro football standouts signed to Under Armour, including names like Tom Brady, Cam Newton and Brandon Marshall. In addition to sponsoring athletes, the company recented outfitted the NFL Combine.
While it is a bit of a surprise that Jack is the first draft-eligible athlete to get a major apparel endorsement deal, Jack also makes a lot of sense for marketers. His story as a two-way player and college and the comebacke he is attempting from a torn meniscus certainly make for compelling storylines to sell around.
Prior to the injury suffered at the beginning of this past college football season, there is no question that Jack was among the most dynamic players in the sport. He broke onto the scene as a freshman in 2013, starting 12 games at linebacker and seeing time at running back for the Bruins.
After collecting 75 tackles and also rushing for seven touchdowns, Jack was named both Pac-12 Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year. During his career, he was also a two-time All-Pac-12 second-team selection.
Jack was a Rivals four-star prospect coming out of Bellevue High School in Washington. He is expected to be a high first round selection when the NFL Draft rolls around April 28th.
