Annia Hatch Biography

Annia Hatch has an amazing story of perseverance in the sport of gymnastics. Hatch's participation in the sport spanned two different countries. She became a burgeoning star in Cuba, winning the national title at the age of 10 and competing in international events. Hatch won three medals at the 1995 Pan American Games and became the first Cuban to medal at the World Championships in 1996. Despite qualifying for the Olympics that year, a lack of funding prohibited her from participating. 

Hatch retired from the sport, married an American man and became a U.S. citizen in 2001. She resumed her training that year, with her eyes firmly set on the 2004 Olympics. Hatch won a pair of silver medals in the team competition and the vault.
