Annika Sorenstam Biography

Annika is the greatest female golfer of her generation, and often regarded as the best of all time. During her 15-year Hall of Fame career, she rewrote the LPGA and Ladies European Tour (LET) record books, won countless awards, and changed the way women’s golf was played, viewed and covered. She amassed 89 worldwide victories, including 72 on the LPGA, 10 of which are Major Championships. Her record-breaking achievements include  eight Rolex Player of the Year awards, six Vare Trophies (recognizing the year’s lowest scoring average, including one for the lowest ever recorded, 68,6969 in 2004), and is the only female to break 60 in an official event. This feat earned her the nickname, “Ms. 59.”

Annika was the first and only female to cross the $20 million mark for LPGA career earnings. Her total of over $22 million is nearly $5 million more than the next-closest competitor. Annika was the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year from 2003-2005, and an eight-time Golf Writers Association of America Female Athlete of the Year (1995, 1997, 2000-2005). Annika also took golf from the sports pages to the front pages when she became the first female in 58 years to compete against the men in a PGA TOUR event, when she played in the 2003 Bank of America Colonial.

Annika stepped away from competitive golf at the end of the 2008 season to pursue a family and further establish the ANNIKA brand of businesses.  She created the ANNIKA Collection with Cutter & Buck, a high-end women’s golf apparel line that embodies the spirit of Annika. Annika also partnered with Wente Vineyards on a signature series of ultra-premium wines that have sold out. The 2006 high-end Syrah debuted in 2009 with 611 cases, and in 2010 she introduced her 2008 Chardonnay. The following year she unveiled the 2011 red blend, 59 Red. Annika also shared her passion for cooking by releasing her first cookbook in Sweden.
