Britta Heidemann Biography

Britta Heidemann is a professional fencer who is of German descent. At just 14 years old, Heidemann, an already accomplished athlete and swimmer, took up fencing in a competition called Friesenkampf, and began to focus her attention full time to the sport. In 2001, Heidemann became a junior world champion, and she competed in her first Olympics in 2004 in Athens, Greece, finishing with a silver medal in the Team epee event. Her next Olympics would be her best, as she won her first Olympic gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in individual competition. Her best year came in 2009, as she became the first epee competitor to hold an Olympic gold medal, a World Championship gold medal, and the European Championship. In her most recent Olympics, Heidemann took home the silver medal in individual competition. Heidemann still competes to this day, and she is training for the upcoming 2016 Olympics.
