Byron Scott Biography

Byron Scott played 15 seasons in the NBA after joining the Los Angeles Lakers as a fourth round pick in 1983 out of Arizona State University.  During his days at Arizona State he was a First-Team All-Pac 10 performer and would go on to show those same skills on basketball’s most elite level.  After being selected by the Los Angeles Clippers he was immediately traded the Lakers and made his debut in 1983.  After his first he earned NBA All-Rookie First Team honors and would go on to help the Lakers to three NBA Championships in 1985, 1987 and 1988.  After 10 seasons with the Lakers he joined the Pacers in 1993 and would go on to play with the Vancouver Grizzlies before retiring form the NBA in 1997 as a Laker.  After briefly playing overseas in Greece he returned to the NBA as an assistant coach with the Sacramento Kings in 1998.  In 2000 he was hired as the new head coach of the New Jersey Nets and has since coached the New Orleans Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers before landing his as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2014.  His career coaching honors include being named the 2008 NBA Coach of the Year.
