Chamique Holdsclaw Biography

Chamique Holdsclaw is a former professional small forward for the WNBA. Holdsclaw began playing basketball at a young age. She attended Christ The King Regional High School where she played basketball and helped lead the team to four straight New York State Championships. The WBCA named Holdsclaw a High School All-American. Holdsclaw attended the University of Tennessee from 1995-99 and she helped the Lady Vols to the women’s NCAA first ever three consecutive Women’s Basketball Championships. In 1998, Tennessee experienced its first ever undefeated season and they set an NCAA record for the most wins ever in a season. The Washington Mystics selected Holdsclaw as the first overall pick in the 1999 WNBA Draft. Holdsclaw was named Rookie of the year ad she was a starter in the inaugural WNBA All-Star Game. Holdsclaw was named to the Olympic team in 2000 and helped them bring home a gold medal. Holdsclaw has also played for the Los Angeles Sparks, Atlanta Dream and the San Antonio Silver Stars. Today, Holdsclaw works as a mental health advocate.
