Charl Schwartzel Biography

Charl Schwartzel is a professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour, European Tour and the Sunshine Tour. Schwartzel had a dominant junior amateur career and he won some amateur events in countries other than South Africa such as the 2002 Indian Amateur and English Open Stroke Play Championships. Schwartzel turned professional at 18 years old and he qualified for the European Tour that year. In 2005, Schwartzel was victorious at the Dunhill Championship and he claimed first place in the Sunshine’s Tour of Merit. Schwartzel won the Vodacom Tour Championship, and that win placed him in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Rankings. Schwartzel experienced a winless 2009 season, but in 2010 he started off by winning two consecutive tournaments on the European Tour. On January 16, 2011, Schwartzel joined the PGA Tour. Schwartzel won the Masters Tournament in 2011 and by doing so he became the third South African winner of the event.
