Chelsea Newton Biography

Chelsea Newton was a standout guard at Rutgers University from 2001-2005 where she started 95 of 104 career games. Averaging 9.5 ppg for her career, Newton was always paired up against her opponent’s biggest offensive threat and following her senior season she was awarded the Big East Defensive Player of the Year Trophy. The All-Big East guard was then drafted in the 2nd Round of the WNBA Draft by the Sacramento Monarchs whom she helped take to the WNBA Finals as a rookie, earning a spot on the on the WNBA All-Rookie Team. Newton played in the WNBA for 5 seasons with the Monarchs and the Chicago Sky, before retiring from the sport and joining her alma mater as an assistant coach. Newton has been a key figure over the past 5 seasons in helping the Scarlet Knights recruit 3 classes that are in the top 5 in the country.
