Chris Smith Biography

Chris Smith is one of the most successful golfers in The Ohio State University’s history. Coming from Indianapolis, Indiana, Smith began contributing to the Buckeyes golf time right away, earning Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors in 1988. He then went on to be named to four straight All-Conference teams including a 1990 year that named him Big Ten’s Player of the Year with an individual win at the Big Ten Championships. After 7 individual titles with OSU, Smith turned professional in 1991 and his first professional win came in the Ohio Open one year later. Smith was invited to play on the Nike Tour (now known as the Web.com Tour) and in 1997 became the first player to win 3 events in one Nike Tour season, which placed him first on the money list and earned him a “battlefield promotion” to the PGA Tour. Smith continues to play on both the Web.com Tour and PGA Tour where he has one professional win coming from the 2002 Buick Open.
