Clay Matthews Biography

Clay Matthews Jr. had an 18 year NFL career with the Cleveland Browns and the Atlanta Falcons. Matthews Jr., son of NFL player Clay Matthews, attended the University of Southern California where he played linebacker. Matthews Jr. who was inducted into the USC Athletics Hall of Fame, helped lead the Trojans to a National Championship in 1974. After USC, Matthews Jr. was drafted at #12 by the Cleveland Browns. In his 15 years with the Browns, Matthews Jr. was selected to 4 Pro Bowls and was named to three All-Pro teams. As one of the most reliable linebackers in NFL history, Matthews Jr. recorded 1,561 tackles which according to one source puts him with 3rd most all time. After his NFL career, Matthews moved to California where he raised his two sons, Clay III and Casey, both of whom were drafted into the NFL.
