Clayton Kershaw Biography

Drawing comparisons to MLB legend Sandy Koufax, left-hander Clayton Kershaw has played for the Los Angeles Dodgers since being drafted in the 2006 MLB Draft. After a high school career that earned him USA Today’s Baseball Player of the Year and baseball’s Gatorade National Player of the Year, Kershaw passed on his scholarship to Texas A&M when he was drafted with the seventh pick in the 2006 MLB Draft by the Dodgers. After just one full season in the minors, the then 20 year old Kershaw was called up to the bigs, making him the youngest player in the MLB. After decent seasons to start his career, Kershaw broke through in the 2011 season when he was named the ace for the Dodger’s rotation. At the end of the 2011 season, Kershaw had NL leading 21 wins, 248 strikeouts, and a 2.28 ERA earning him the pitching Triple Crown. Kershaw’s career ERA of 2.48 is lowest among all pitchers with a min. of 1,000 innings since 1920 and has earned him an MLB record 4 straight ERA titles. After his breakthrough season, Kershaw has continued to dominate, earning accolades such as 4 All Star appearances, 3x NL Cy Young Awards, and an NL MVP title in a 2014 season that many say is one of the greatest pitching seasons in a long time.
