Cynthia Cooper Biography

Cynthia Cooper, who now goes by her married hyphenated name Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, is a former star basketball player. As a former player, she has a history with her college team, the Olympics and the WNBA. As a current coach, she has a history coaching with many universities. Cooper was born in Illinois but relocated to California at an early age. Excelling in both track and field and basketball in high school, she went on to play college basketball at the University of Southern California. Cooper led USC to many outstanding achievements and went on to represent Team USA, becoming a four-time gold medal recipient between 1986 and 1990. She entered the WNBA at age 34 and was voted by fans in 2011 as one of the Top 15 players in WNBA history. Still remembered and admired by many for this recognition, Cooper went on to become the head coach of the women’s basketball teams at Prairie View A&M University, UNC Wilmington, Texas Southern University, and USC.
