Dan Hampton Biography

Dan Hampton is a retired NFL defensive tackle who played 12 seasons in the league with the Chicago Bears. Prior to his time with the Bears, Hampton played collegiately at the University of Arkansas. At Arkansas, Hampton was a standout defensive player, receiving two All-Conference selections and one All American honor in his senior season. His play earned him recognition from coach Mike Ditka, who later drafted Hampton in the first round of the 1979 NFL Draft with the Chicago Bears. In his rookie season, Hampton earned All-Rookie honors, following this effort up with an 11.5 sack season, earning his first Pro Bowl bid. Over his 12 year career, Hampton was voted to the Pro Bowl six times, earning four First Team All Pro honors. His play was crucial to the Bears winning Super Bowl XX in 1985, and he was voted Defensive Lineman of the Year in 1984. Hampton retired in 1990, ending his storied career with 82 sacks in 157 games, netting him a Hall of Fame bid in 2002.
