Darrell Waltrip Biography

Darrell Waltrip's name cannot be said without immediately thinking of NASCAR; the two are synonymous. From 1972-2000, Waltrip dominated the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and is often considered one of the best to ever race a car. Throughout his 29 year career, Waltrip blew away his competition on his way to setting numerous NASCAR records. With 84 wins and 390 top tens (48% of the races he started) in the Sprint Cup Series, Waltrip ranks second only to Jeff Gordon for most wins in modern day NASCAR. In his career, he won 3 NASCAR Cup Series Championships, another 3 runner-up finishes, 5 Coca-Cola 600s, and 1 Daytona 500. He was a 3x Driver of the Year winner, 2x Most Popular Driver award winner, and was named as Driver of the Decade for the 1980s. In 2012, just two years upon retiring, Waltrip was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Along with owning a chain of automobile dealerships, Waltrip serves as an analyst and race commentator for Fox Sports.
