Darren Cahill Biography

Darren Cahill has had a successful life in tennis. As the son of the legendary Australian rules football coach, John Cahill, big things were always expected from his career in sports. Cahill originally delivered as a player, winning two career singles titles and 13 tournaments on the doubles side. The high-water mark of his playing career came when he defeated Boris Becker and others to reach the semifinals of the 1988 U.S. Open. 

Cahill successfully transitioned to the coaching ranks, guiding Lleyton Hewitt up the ladder on the way to becoming the youngest player to ever be ranked number one in the world. He then shepherded a comeback for Andre Agassi, coaching him from 2002-06. Agassi became the oldest player to ever reach world number one in 2003. Following his retirement, Cahill joined the Adidas Player Development Program and has several pupils, including former world number one on the women's side, Simona Halep. 

Cahill has also become a successful broadcaster, originally joining ESPN for their Australian Open coverage. He commentates on three of the four Grand Slam events for the network.
