David Cutcliffe Biography

David Cutcliffe is the pride of Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating from Banks High School he attended the University of Alabama and served as a student assistant on Bear Bryant’s Crimson Tide coaching staff. After graduation, he was hired as an assistant at his alma mater, Banks High School, and was eventually served as head coach from 1980 to 1981.  

In 1982 he was hired as an assistant at the University of Tennessee and served in that role for 16 years until being hired as the head coach at Ole Miss in 1998.  During his seven seasons as the head coach at Ole Miss, he led the Rebels to 44 wins, five Bowl appearances and an SEC Championship in 2003.  

After the 2004 season, he was hired as the associate head coach at Notre Dame and then served as the offensive coordinator at Tennessee from 2006 to 2007.  In 2008, he was hired as the head coach at Duke University. After building the program back up, Cutcliffe led the Blue Devils to their first bowl in 18 years in 2012. The following year, they won the ACC Coastal Division and ten games for the first time in school history. Cutcliffe led the program until stepping down after the 2021 season.
