Eric Berry Biography

Eric Berry was one of the best defensive backs in the NFL during his career, spent entirely with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2010-18. Berry was a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time First Team All-Pro. He is best remembered for being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma at the end of the 2014 season, but bouncing back to be named NFL Comeback Player of the Year the following season. 

The Chiefs originally selected Berry with the fifth overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. In addition to his banner career in Kansas City that garnered him a spot on the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, he was also a college star at Tennessee. 

Berry was a unanimous All-American and first-team All-SEC pick his last two seasons. He was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 and won the Jim Thorpe Award in 2009. 

Berry became a star for the Vols right away, setting a program record for 222 return yards on 5 interceptions on his way to earning SEC Defensive Freshman of the Year honors. As the top cornerback in the nation and #3 player overall coming out of high school, Eric Berry had his choice of colleges to go to. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2023.
