Erik Kynard Biography

Erik Kynard was a two-time state champion in the high jump in high school before accepting a track and field scholarship at Kansas State University. Kynard made an impact right away for the Wildcats, finishing in 2nd place at the indoor Big 12 Championships followed up by a 1st place finish in the outdoor NCAA West Regional. In 2011, Kynard won his first NCAA Championship with a height of 2.29 meters and won it again in 2012 at 2.34, setting a new school record. Kynard’s impressive collegiate stats gave him a chance to qualify for the US Olympic Team for the 2012 Olympic Games and with a height of 2.28 finished 2nd in the Team Trials, earning a spot to London. At 21 years old, Kynard cleared 2.33 meters, earning the silver medal in the event at his first major international competition.
