Ernie Kent Biography

Ernie Kent is a college basketball coach who most recently served as the head coach at Washington State. Most of Kent’s success as a coach came at his alma mater Oregon. Kent spent 13 seasons with the Ducks and went to the NCAA Tournament five times.  They won one regular season and two postseason Pac-10 titles.  In 2002, the Ducks went 26-9, reached the Elite Eight, and Kent won Pac-10 Coach of the Year.  That season, Oregon won their first conference championship since 1939.  They would win 29 games in 2006-7 and again make it to the Elite Eight.  In time away from the sport before landing at WSU, Kent served as an analyst on the Pac-12 Network.  Prior to arriving in Eugene, he was the head coach at Saint Mary’s and led the team to an NCAA Tournament bid in his final season.  Kent’s coaching career started in a non-traditional way as the head coach of Al-Khaleej in Saudi Arabia for eight years.  He returned to the U.S. and had assistant coaching jobs at Colorado State and Stanford.
