Fang Mitchell Biography

Ron “Fang” Mitchell is an American college basketball coach and the former head men’s basketball coach at Coppin State University. Mitchell has spent 28 years being the Coppin State head coach, and during his time, he has helped the Eagles attain 429 wins, four MEAC tournament championships, and ten regular season titles. Mitchell himself was a six-time MEAC coach of the year and helped the team to 11 consecutive winning seasons between 1998 and 2000. In 1997, Mitchell and the Eagles upset the University of South Carolina in the opening round of the NCAA National Tournament. In the last ten years that Mitchell and the Eagles played, only one of them has been a winning season. Mitchell’s Coppin record ended at 429 wins and 417 losses. During his time at Coppin, Mitchell focused on helping his players graduate and since the 2011-2012 season eight have graduated. Even though he has been let go at the age of 65, Mitchell is not ready to retire from coaching.
