Frank Martin Biography

Frank Martin is a basketball head coach who is currently the head coach for the men’s basketball team at the University of Massachusetts. Martin came to UMass after a decade-long run at South Carolina, where he went 171-147. His tenure included a Final Four appearance in 2017. 

Martin attended Florida International University and upon graduating he decided to become a full-time basketball coach in 1992. He began his career as the head coach of the boy’s junior varsity team at Miami High School in 1985. In 1993, Martin was appointed to his first coaching position at North Miami High School. Martin returned to Miami High School in 1995 where he would coach the varsity team. In 1999, Martin was dismissed from Miami and went to Booker T. Washington High School where he served as a head coach for a year. Martin received his first college-coaching job as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Northeastern University in 2000. In 2004, Martin transferred to the University of Cincinnati where he served as an assistant coach. Martin served at Kansas State University for a year before becoming the head coach in 2007.
