Fred Lynn Biography

Fred Lynn is a retired MLB outfielder who played 19 seasons in the league with five different teams. Prior to his time in the MLB, Lynn played collegiately at the University of Southern California for four seasons, playing well enough to be drafted by the Boston Red Sox, making his MLB debut in 1974. During his 1975 rookie season, Lynn accomplished a feat that had never been done before, winning both the AL Rookie of the Year and AL MVP after leading the AL in doubles, runs scored, and slugging percentage. For the next six years, Lynn would be a top player in the MLB, earning six of his nine All Star nominations with the Red Sox. In 1980, Lynn was traded to the California Angels, remaining with the team for four seasons until signing with the Baltimore Orioles in 1984. After brief stints with the Detroit Tigers and the San Diego Padres, Lynn decided to hang up his cleats in 1990, finishing his career with a.283 batting average, 306 homeruns and 1,111 RBIs.
