Jalen Rose Biography

Jalen Rose is an honorable former NBA player. Standing 6’8”, he surprisingly played point guard, shooting guard and small forward throughout the majority of his career. Rose grew up in Detroit, Michigan in the 1970’s and ‘80’s and went on to attend the University of Michigan. As a Wolverine, Rose racked up more than 1,700 points. He entered the 1994 NBA draft and was selected as the thirteenth overall pick by the Denver Nuggets. Although only staying with the Nuggets for three seasons, Rose played for five other teams in the NBA throughout the course of his thirteen-year career. As a member of the Indiana Pacers, Rose received the NBA Most Improved Player award in 2000. He also spent chunks of time with the Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors, New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns. Although having been retired from the sport since 2007, Rose now has more time to focus on his second passion in life – helping others. Off the court, Rose has always been an advocate for education. He helps build reading centers, especially for inner city kids worldwide. In 2011, Rose even established an open enrollment public charter school known as the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy.
