Jamie Sale Biography

Jamie Sale captured the hearts and minds of a generation of figure skating fans at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. She and her partner David Pelletier skated to a tie for gold in the pairs competition. They were awarded the gold in infamous fashion after a French judge's vote was thrown out on account of bribery. The gold medal win was significant for Canada. It was only the country's third gold in figure skating and their first since 1960. Sale and Pelletier, who were also once married, had had great success in the lead-up to the Games, winning the 2001 World Championship and also coming out on top in the 2002 Skate Canada, Skate America and Grand Prix competitions. 

Sale originally started her skating career in pairs with partner Jason Turner and the duo competed in both the 1994 Winter Olympics and World Championships. She then tried out singles competition before pairing up with Pelletier in 1998. 

Sale and Pelletier achieved great success post-Olympic gold as well. They were married from 2005-2010, often skating with the Stars on Ice Tour even up to their 2012 retirement. The duo is members of the Skate Canada Hall of Fame and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame.
