Jason Varitek Biography

Few MLB catchers demand the respect that Jason Varitek earned during his 15 seasons as the Boston Red Sox back stop. During his career in Boston he earned three All-Star selections and both a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award to go along with two World Series championships in 2004 and 2007. After the Red Sox defeated the “Curse of the Bambino” and captured their first World Series title since 1918 in 2004, the Red Sox named him their team captain, a title he’d hold until his retirement in 2011. A true ball player, Varitek is one of very few boys of summer to have competed in the Little League World Series, College World Series and MLB World Series.
