Jennifer Capriati Biography

Jennifer Capriati had an amazing run to start her career in tennis. Capriati made her professional debut when she was 13 years old, setting herself up to become the youngest player ever to reach the top ten of the world rankings. In her Grand Slam debut, Capriati reached the semifinals of the 1993 French Open. The pressure of being that young and talented forced her away from the game for a number of years, but her comeback story made her time on the court that much more impressive. 

Capriati won her first tournament in six years in 1999. At the 2001 Australian Open, she emerged as the lowest seed to ever capture the championship. Capriati then went on to win the French Open that year and vault to number one in the world. She successfully defended her Aussie Open title in 2002 and remained a dominant player until her 2004 retirement. Overall, Capriati won 14 singles tournaments and a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics. She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2012.
