John Farrell Biography

John Farrell is the former manager of the Boston Red Sox who won a World Series in his first season with the club.  That same year, in 2013, he also was named American League Manager of the Year by the Sporting News.  Previously, Farrell had compiled a 154-170 record as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays before coming to Boston.  The Red Sox had gained an affinity for Farrell while he served as their pitching coach from 2006-10 under Terry Francona.  He was apart of the coaching staff that led Boston to a World Series title in 2007.  Prior to that, Farrell was the director of player development for the Cleveland Indians and during this time the Indians won several organizational awards.  He got his start in coaching at his alma mater Oklahoma State as a pitching and recruiting coordinator from 1997-01.  As a pitcher, Farrell played eight big league seasons and amassed a 36-46 record.  He is originally from Monmouth Beach, New Jersey.  All three of Farrell’s sons followed in their dad’s footsteps and were selected in the MLB Draft.  Farrell currently serves as a scout for the Cincinnati Reds and an analyst for ESPN's Baseball Tonight.
