Johnson Wagner Biography

Johnson Wagner is a Texas boy, and joined the Virginia Tech golf team in 1998 after a stellar amateur and prep career in Amarillo, Texas. After an All-American career at Virginia Tech in which he won the 2001 and 2002 Metropolitan Amateur Championship he joined the pro ranks in 2002 and competed on the Nationwide Tour from 2003 to 2006. In 2006 he finished second on the Nationwide Tour money list after capturing several top-ten finishes and a win at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open. His performance that season would earn him his PGA Tour card and set the stage for a solid pro career. In 2008 he won his first PGA Tour event with an impressive 16 under par performance at the Shell Houston Open. He’d go on to post the top major performance of his career that year with a 36th place finish at the 2008 Masters Tournament. Wagner’s other PGA Tour wins include victories at the 2011 Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun and 2012 Sony Open in Hawaii.
