J.P. Arencibia Biography

J.P. Arencibia is a Miami native who is back home as a studio analyst for Miami Marlins games on Bally Sports Florida. The Cuban-American was a prep star who attended the University of Tennessee and was named the USA Baseball Richard W. "Dick" Case Player of the Year in 2006. He was selected in the first round of the 2007 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays and made his big league debut in 2010. In his first game, he hit a home run on the first pitch he saw, collecting four hits and two home runs overall. After that debut, Arencibia spent most of the next three seasons as the Blue Jays starting catcher. He also played for the Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays before retiring in 2017.
