Kelly Holmes Biography

Kelly Holmes is one of the greatest British middle distance runners of all-time. She won gold in the 800 and 1500 meters at the 2004 Olympics. Holmes first had a breakout when she won the 1500 m at the 1994 Commonwealth Games. That same year, she also grabbed a silver at the European Championships. Holmes made her Olympic debut in 1996 and grabbed her first medal, a bronze, in the 800 m at the 2000 Games. She also won three World Championship medals during her career. After her double-gold triumph in 2004, Holmes was named Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. After retiring, she has gotten involved in training junior athletes, has served as the president of Commonwealth Games England and has been a mental health advocate.
