Kim Zmeskal Biography

Kim Zmeskal, like most elite gymnasts, began at a young age and came into her own in her mid teens. At age 15 she won a Gold Medal in the All-Around, Silver Medal in the team competition and a bronze medal in the individual floor exercise at the World Championships in Indianapolis. The following year she headed to Paris and won two Gold Medals in the floor exercise and balance beam at the World Championships, which set the stage for her run to Olympic Bronze in the team competition at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. During her career she was known for her round-off routines that featured three consecutive back whips, a back handspring and a double backflip. On her fault routines she added an extra element by throwing her hands in the air gracefully as she twisted through the air. A native of Houston, Texas, Zmeskal returned to the United States an American hero and has since trained several world stars on the gymnastics circuit.
