Marianne Stanley Biography

Marianne Stanley is a true legend and a Basketball Hall of Famer for her contributions to the game of women's basketball. Stanley won three straight AIAW national championships in the early 1970s at Immaculata College. She played in the first nationally televised women's basketball game and the first women's game at Madison Square Garden. They also made a film about Stanley's team called "The Mighty Macs" and the entire squad was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014. 

Stanley went on to start her coaching career at Immaculata before being named the head coach at Old Dominion. Her ODU teams won two AIAW national championships and went to the NCAA Championship in 1985. Stanley also coached at Penn, USC, Stanford and Cal. She jumped up to the WNBA in 2000 with the Los Angeles Sparks as an assistant. Stanley then was head coach of the Washington Mystics for two seasons, winning WNBA Coach of the Year in 2002. Stanley had a variety of assistant coaching roles after that before becoming the head coach of the Indiana Fever in 2020.
