Mark Melancon Biography

Mark Melancon is a relief pitcher for the San Diego Padres, who at times has been considered one of the best closers in baseball.  He is a three-time All-Star, having earned berths to the Midsummer Classic in 2013, 2015 and 2016.  In 2015, Melancon led the National League with 52 saves and was named NL Reliever of the Year. Prior to arriving blossoming with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Melancon bounced around, spending time with the Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros and New York Yankees.  He made his major league debut with the Yankees in 2009 and received a World Series ring during that championship season.  New York originally selected him in the ninth round of the 2006 MLB Draft.  Melancon played college baseball at the University of Arizona.
