Matt Biondi Biography

Matt Biondi is an eleven-time Olympic medalist and former world record holder in 5 events. Growing up, Biondi played water polo and was a swimmer. Biondi did not start swimming year round until he started high school. As a senior, he was the top schoolboy sprinter in America. Biondi accepted a scholarship to the University of California, Berkley to swim and play water polo. As a freshman, Biondi played on Berkley’s NCAA championship water polo team and made the finals at the NCAA Swimming Championships. Biondi competed in the Summer Olympic Games in 1984, 1988, and 1992 where he won eight gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal. Biondi also participated in the 1986 and 1991 World Championships where he won three gold medals, one silver, and three bronze medals. Biondi is a member of the United States Olympic Hall of Fame and the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
