Matt Joyce Biography

Matt Joyce is an outfielder for the Miami Marlins. Joyce’s baseball career began at North Brandon Little League when he was a child. Joyce attended Armwood High School where he played on the baseball team. He then attended Florida Southern College where he helped the team win their 9th Division II national title. The Detroit Tigers selected Joyce in the 12th round of the 2005 MLB Draft. After he was drafted, Joyce was assigned to the Oneonta Tigers. In 2006, he played for the West Michigan Whitecaps where he helped them capture their second Midwest League’s championship in three years. Joyce played for the Erie SeaWolves in 2007. Joyce made his Major League debut with the Tigers on May 5, 2008. Joyce was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays on December 10, 2008. Joyce was an opening day starter for the Rays in 2009, but he was sent back down to the minors shortly after. In 2011, Joyce was named to his first Major League Baseball All-Star Game. On December 16, 2014, Joyce was traded to the Los Angeles Angels. After spending 2015 with the Angels, he was with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2016. Joyce joined the Oakland Athletics in 2017 and set a career-high with 28 home runs. He played with the Atlanta Braves in 2019 before joining the Marlins in 2020.
