Matt Light Biography

Matt Light was born on June 23, 1978 in Greenville, Ohio. Light attended Greenville High School where he played football as a linebacker, guard and tight end. As a linebacker, Light was a second-team Division II all-state selection and in his senior year alone, Light earned all-county, all-district, and all-conference honors. Light attended Purdue University where he played football from 1996-99. Light played for the Boilermakers as a true freshman tight end. After undergoing shoulder surgery, Light was redshirted for his sophomore year. The New England Patriots selected Light in the 2nd round as the 48th overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. In his time with the Patriots, Light was a 3x Pro Bowl selection, First-team All-pro, 3x Super Bowl Champion, 5x AFC Champion, Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award winner, and he made the New England Patriots All-2000s Team. Light announced his retirement on May 7, 2012. He now serves as an NFL analyst for ESPN.
