Naomi Girma Biography

Naomi Girma has had a remarkable climb to the top of the soccer world. Girma is the product of Ethiopian immigrants and she grew up playing for a club her father formed in the San Jose area. She went on to Stanford, where she became team captain and led the Cardinal to win the Women's College cup in 2019. A year later, Girma was named the U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year. 

Girma made her senior national team debut in 2022 and also was the number one pick of the San Diego Wave in the NWSL Draft. She immediately made an impact on the club side, getting named to the NWSL Best XI of the Month in May and June. Girma finished the year as the league's Defender of the Year and Rookie of the Year.
