Ron Washington Biography

Ron Washington spent 11 seasons as a professional baseball player before gaining great acclaim as a manager. Washington spent the majority of his playing career with the Minnesota Twins. As a middle-infielder, he batted a career .261 with 20 home runs.

Following his retirement, Washington began a coaching career within the New York Mets organization before being hired as the first base coach for the Oakland Athletics in 1996. He stayed with the A's until 2006, holding positions of infield and third base coach.

In 2007, Washington beat our 4 other candidates to become the new Manager for the Texas Rangers. Just three seasons later, Washington became just the second manager in Rangers history to take his team to the postseason and became the first manager to lead the Rangers to a World Series. They lost the 2010 World Series to the San Francisco Giants and returned to the World Series in 2011 where they lost in 7 games to the St. Louis Cardinals.

In 2013, Washington passed Bobby Valentine for most wins as a Rangers manager, and when he resigned in 2014 he had 664 wins to his managing resume. Washington went on to serve on the coaching staffs of the A's from 2015-15 and Atlanta Braves from 2017-23. He won a World Series with the Braves as their third base coach in 2021 and was hired to manage the Los Angeles Angels for the 2024 season.
