Roy Williams Biography

There are not many coaches that have been as successful as Roy Williams in college basketball. Williams was a top-notch coach at both Kansas and North Carolina. Williams ranks second all-time in wins at both schools behind legends Phog Allen and Dean Smith respectively. He won national titles with the Tar Heels in 2005 and 2009. Williams and Rick Pitino are the only coaches to take two squads to the Final Four three times each. At UNC, he has won nine ACC regular season and three ACC tournament championships.  Williams was the Kansas coach from 1988-2003 and went to 14 straight NCAA Tournaments.  The Jayhawks also won nine regular seasons conference championships and he was named Coach of the Year seven times.  After a tenure coaching high school basketball, Williams got his college coaching start as an assistant under Smith at his alma mater North Carolina.  For his array of accolades, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.
