Sean Miller Biography

Sean Miller is a Pennsylvania native and played his collegiate basketball at Pittsburgh University. While playing point guard for the Panthers he scored over 1,000 points to go along with 744 assists and 261 rebounds as a four-year starter and team captain. Upon graduating with a degree in communications from Pitt he took a graduate assistant position at the University of Wisconsin and began his climb up the coaching ladder. After earning his graduate degree from Wisconsin, he served as an assistant coach at Miami of Ohio, Pittsburgh, NC State and Xavier from 1993 to 2004 before earning the head-coaching job at Xavier in 2004. From 2004 to 2009 he led the Musketeers to a 120-47 overall record, four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and three Atlantic 10 regular season Championships while earning A-10 Coach of the Year honors in 2006. In 2009 the University of Arizona hired him as their new head coach. During his first six seasons at Arizona, he led the Wildcats to 140 wins, three NCAA Tournament appearances, and two Pac-12 regular-season championships while garnering Pac-12 John R. Wooden Coach of the Year honors twice in 2011 and 2014. After a year away from coaching, Miller returned to Xavier in 2022.
