Shawn Harper Biography

Shawn Harper is a retired professional offensive tackle for the NFL. Growing up, Harper had a hard life. A single mother raised him and he was diagnosed with multiple disabilities including dyslexia and a debilitating stutter. Harper discovered football while in high school and that was when his football career began. During his senior year, his coach contacted a friend at North Iowa Community College and informed him that Harper would be a good fit for the team. While at North Iowa Community College, Harper began to envision himself playing in the NFL. Harper succeeded at NICC and he was recruited by Indiana University to play football. The Los Angeles Rams selected Harper as the 87th overall pick in the 1992 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut in 1995 after the Indianapolis Colts signed him. In 1998, he played in NFL Europe with the Amsterdam Admirals. After his retirement, he has been a member of the Central Ohio Salvation Army Advisory Board.
