Sylvia Fowles Biography

Sylvia Fowles is a WNBA basketball icon, representing number thirty-four for the Chicago Sky. Standing six and a half feet tall, Fowles unsurprisingly plays center. She grew up in some of the rougher neighborhoods of Miami in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, making her stronger than ever. Fowles attended Louisiana State University (LSU), and a freshman, played in all 36 of the Lady Tigers games. During her senior year season, Fowles became the sixth woman to dunk in an American college basketball game. Fowles persistence displayed itself tremendously when she suffered from a meniscus tear in 2007, requiring knee surgery, and came back in 2008 to be named the SEC Player of the Year. That same year, Fowles broke the all-time SEC record for career rebounds in an NCAA Tournament game. She was then selected as the second overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky. Since, Fowles has averaged 10.8 points a game and 7.6 rebounds. She has also gone on to represent the U.S. in the Olympics, winning two gold medals in the team competition during the 2008 Beijing Games and the 2012 London Games. Fowles is an icon to be looked up to.
