Taira Uematsu Biography

Taira Uematsu made history heading into the 2022 season as the first MLB coach born in Japan. Uematsu had spent the previous 14 seasons as the San Francisco Giants bullpen catcher. He originally began with the team's Triple-A squad as an unpaid intern. Uematsu got his first big break catching the 2007 American League team during the All-Star Game. One season later, he joined the Giants as an interpreter.
