Terry Pendleton Biography

Terry Pendleton had a successful 15-year major league career at third base. Pendleton made his major league debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1984 and spent his first seven seasons with the club. He was a vital part of Cardinals teams that went to the World Series in 1985 and 1987. Pendleton's prowess as a defender at the hot corner started in St. Louis and he won three Gold Gloves overall. He signed with the Atlanta Braves in free agency prior to the 1991 season and would give them a quick return on their investment. Pendleton was named National League MVP that season after leading the league with a .319 batting average and hitting 22 home runs. His impressive showing helped the Braves win the NL pennant and start a dynastic run that lasted through the decade. Pendleton had another strong year in 1992 and made his first All-Star team. He went on to play for several other franchises before retiring in 1998. Pendleton spent 15 years as a coach with the Braves in retirement and is a member of the team's Hall of Fame.
