Wes Chandler Biography

Wes Chandler was a four-time Pro Bowl and two-time All-Pro wide receiver. He starred for the San Diego Chargers from 1981-1987 and was elected to the team’s Hall of Fame. When he retired, Chandler ranked in the top 15 in NFL history in both yards and receptions. During the strike-shortened 1982 season, he averaged 129 receiving yards a game, which is still a league record. Chandler played one final season with the San Francisco 49ers and was also drafted with the third overall pick in 1978 by the New Orleans Saints. He may have even been a better college player for the Florida Gators. Chandler was a two-time first team All-American and two-time All-SEC performer. Many consider him to be the Gators greatest receiver ever and he is a member of the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame. In his post-playing career, Chandler was a coach for teams in college, NFL Europe, WFL, UFL, and NFL. He is currently the wide receiver’s coach for a youth training camp called Football University.
