Akili Smith Biography

Akili Smith is a former NFL quarterback who was the third overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft.  Smith was originally with the Cincinnati Bengals, but only started 17 games in his four seasons there.  After that, he got shots with the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League, but never stuck with any of the three.  Smith had two seasons at the University of Oregon.  In his senior campaign for the Ducks, he was able to generate draft buzz throwing for 3,763 yards and 30 touchdowns.  Smith started his college career at Grossmont College.  The San Diego, California native played at Abraham Lincoln High School, the same school NFL star running backs Marcus Allen and Terrell Davis attended.  Smith currently coaches at The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, CA and runs quarterback camps.
