Allen Bestwick Biography

Allen Bestwick is one of the voices synonymous with motor racing in the broadcasting world.  He was ESPN’s lead play-by-play man for NASCAR and the IndyCar Series.  He originally joined ESPN as a pit reporter and host of NASCAR Countdown.  Bestwick was also the lead broadcaster for NBC and TNT’s NASCAR coverage before his jump to ESPN.  His seminal moment on air came at the 2001 Pepsi 400, the first race at Daytona International Speedway since the passing of Dale Earnhardt.  Bestwick remarked at the end of the race, "Here they come! Turn 4! Final lap of the Pepsi 400! Michael Waltrip in second, but it's going to be Dale Earnhardt, Jr., using lessons learned from his father to go from 6th to 1st and score the victory in the Pepsi 400!" He began his broadcasting career at the age of 15 on his high school radio station at Coventry High School in Coventry, Rhode Island.
