Bill Demong Biography

As a Nordic combined skier, Bill Demong has had impressive success as a four-time Olympian and World Championship winner. Bill was part of the U.S. Olympic team in Nagano, Salt Lake City, Torino, and Vancouver. By skiing the final lap in the team large hill 4x5 km event in the 2010 Winter Games, Bill and his teammates won the silver medal. During the same Olympic Games, Demong won gold in the 10 km individual large hill event. By doing so, Demong became the first American to win an Olympic gold medal in a Nordic event. After accomplishing what he did in his events, Bill capped off the games by proposing to his now wife and was even named the flag bearer for the American team at the closing ceremonies on the same day. Aside from his honors in the Olympics, Bill has won one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals in the World Championship events he has competed in. 

After his athletic career, Demong pivoted to running USA Nordic Sport, the National Leadership Organization for Ski Jumping, and Nordic Combined. There he increased revenue by over five times during his six-year tenure and led the 2018 and 2022 Olympic delegations in those sports. Additionally, he put on the 2022 Olympic Trials a 2-hour live show on NBC on Christmas day which enjoyed one of the largest non-Olympic audiences in winter sports history.
