Bob McAdoo Biography

Bob McAdoo is one of the greatest scorers in NBA history. McAdoo was an All-American at the University of North Carolina and the second overall pick in the 1972 NBA Draft by the Buffalo Braves. McAdoo made five straight All-Star teams from 1972-76 and won three league scoring titles from 74-76. In 1975, he scored a career-best 34.5 points per game on the way to NBA MVP honors. McAdoo played for seven teams overall, but he is best known for his early career success with the Braves and his run with the "Showtime" Los Angeles Lakers from 1981-85. As a key Lakers reserve, he won NBA titles in 1982 and 1985. McAdoo finished his career with the Philadelphia 76ers in 1986 with 18,787 points. He went on to play in the Italian League for several years before joining the Miami Heat coaching staff in 1995. McAdoo reunited with his former Los Angeles coach, Pat Riley, and ended up spending 19 years as a Heat assistant. He helped Miami win three NBA championships and continues to serve the organization as a scout and community liaison. McAdoo was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.
